Measuring length with iPhone gyro and accelerometer

Probably. I started looking into writing an app to do it but got bored. The user might well have to calibrate the device once as I suspect the accelerometer will return slightly different values on each phone.
I tried to do it but I failed... I used the first 2 of these equations..

I think my math is correct but the accelerometer's noise screws up everything...
