long story short:

i have 10.3.5, but i need to return to good ol' X on my G4 laptop, but when I try to use the OSX CD to re-install I hang on startup.

this also happens on startup using 9.2.

how do you dumb down your OS?

thanks in advance for ANY help..

i just went ahead and got more RAM; now the software (AVID Xpress Pro) works on the blasted machine....

Are you restarting holding the C key? If so try going to the startup disk prefpane and changing the selection to the disk and restarting. Also try flashing the P-RAM.
