I was reading that the ATI Jan. 2002 Update could enable a 24-bit option on the 20th Anniversary Macintosh(the Apple drivers limit it to 16-bit.)

I tried installing the update and it didn't seem to work. I was still maxing out at 16-bit. What wasn't mentioned is you need to remove all the existing ATI software before running the patch (I'm running 9.2.2,) after removing it I simply rebooted and installed the patch.

Works great, 24-bit colour works - tested with a DIVX movie (can't watch 'em without a G3 card, but whatever, it played well enough to see if the colour depth is really 24-bit.)

Just be sure to remove your existing ATI extentions before installing, or 24-bit will not be enabled.

Hope someone finds it useful.

There's a more recent patch (Oct. 2002) that will probably work with it - trying that now.
