Itunes has doubled and trebled a lot of tunes

Hi.

I have just gone into Itunes for the first time in a few days only to discover it has doubled and in some cases trebled some tunes. This is very annoying. Has anyone got any ideas how i managed to do this?

Not sure why it has happened, do you wish to remove them?

You can either show duplicates File>Show Duplicates. You will then have to manually delete the extras.

There is also a way to use automator/terminal to search and delete the duplicates.

Yeah i clicked on the duplicates and there is 500+. It’s going to take me an age to delete them all manually. I want to keep the actual tunes though, i just don’t need two or three of them :(

How do i stop this from happening again?

Thanks a million. I am one frustrated person at this moment in time. Although, on the positive side this is the first time i have been annoyed at my MBP since i switched last November, and i know it will be something i have done wrong :)
