Tell us.
1. Do you like your music LOUD
2. What's the song(s) you like to play loudest
3. What speakers you use

For me. Hmm. Oh yes I do. It'd have to be right now Yahel - Tribal Maker, and I use Logitech Z640s and I blew out my subwoofer so I'm looking for speakers that can handle my bass. I like that song, but all time favorite could be DJ Tiesto - Traffic. Awesome stuff.

I have Cambridge Soundworks Creative Stereo speakers. Prefer the sound to be in the moderate range. Most of my music is classic, motion picture sound tracks, and some such as Frank Sinatra.

I like rock, and the pre-requisite for listing to rock is for it to be LOUD. I mean, security comes over loud. I'm not sure what kind of speakers I have, but it has surround sound... and the bass drives my neighbor nuts. :p

1. Depends on the band... sometimes yes, sometimes no.
2. The songs I play the loudest would probably be something by O.A.R. (Of A Revolution)
3. I have my computer plugged into a Panasonic sterio that i bought, 6-7 years ago... sounds wonderful.

Generally, I want my music to fill the room. And on occasion (a.k.a. when the 'rents aren't home ;)) I'll turn it up quite a bit when something that begs for it comes on. Like For Whom the Bell Tolls :D

I hate listening to music too loudly. It takes away from the music IMO. As long as I can hear everything I'm fine.

I managed the other week to blow my 2nd set of KEF 35's demoing my Star Wars Spec Ed LD to my mate.

Can't get any bass out of one the speakers so its im going to have to cough up for a repair which may cost £££.

So, to answer your question.

Yes!!!!

1. Do you like your music LOUD
Generally.
2. What's the song(s) you like to play loudest
You have to play most orchestral music rather loud to pick out the finer details... Dvorak's New World symphony is awesome on higher settings; though I don't discriminate. Skinny Puppy is good too...
3. What speakers you use
Attached to the PC are some wonderful THX-certified Altec Lansing ADA885s. I've not heard any other computer speakers that come close.

Downstairs, where the real fun is, I have my Yamaha DSP-AX620 amp, some Mission 772s, (when I get around to setting them up) some Mordaunt-Short rears, and a lovely Celestion centre - full-on well balanced.

Side, shouldn't this be moved to General Music?

1. Do you like your music LOUD
Yes, but it depends on the song/type of music.

What's the song(s) you like to play loudest
When I wanted to crank it:
The Happiest Days Of Our Lives/
Another Brick In The Wall Part 2 (Pink Floyd)
Foreplay Long Time (Boston)
Starbright/
On the line (Lee Ritenour)
Xanadu (Rush)
1812 Overature
Can't Touch This (MC Hammer)
Let the Music Play (Shannon)
1999 (Prince)
1984-Jump (Van Halen) (Great to work on Kata's)
Cruel Summer (Bananarama)
Caribbean Queen (Billy Ocean)

What speakers you use
Before I moved to Japan, Bose 901s driven by Carver Pro Amp. If memory serves I could pump out (into 8 ohm loads) 450 continuous watts per channel. Long term short term peak was 600 watts per channel. Short term short term peak was 730 watts per channel.

I think that I could strap it mono at 1,200 continous watts.

Additionally, I had a Pioneer Pro Amp for another 150 watts continuous that I would put in parallel driving some Bose AM-5 speakers. When I cranked this system, most thought it was the Carver/Bose 901s until I turned them on.

Wicked system. I could induce pain! :D :D :D

I had a buddy of mine that roomed with me during flight school in the early 80's. We were both EEs so we like to dable in electronic stuff. His passion was speakers. He custom designed his speakers with the SIRE program.

When he got tired of his current speakers, and wanted to upgrade he would blow his old ones. On a side note, I always get a chuckle when I watch "Back to the Future" when Michael J. Fox blows that one huge speaker. My buddy would launch his coils with 700 watt bursts. Really cool...and expensive. Fun to watch! :D

I am with you on the first part.

It depends on the second. But for the most part agree.

So much of the 70's Rock and Roll and 80's disco era stuff needed to be cranked!

That is not to say that today there isn't good stuff to crank as well.

I miss my old system.

I don't think you quite understand the power of my old system.

In a 6 tatami room, at 20 watts continuous you would have more sound that you would need or probably want. At 30-40 watts continuous, it would start to become a nusance and people's faces would grimace a bit from the sound.

Note, I am not talking about peak watts, but continuous watts at a level well over 20 times 40 watts! I could back an audience up with my system when I did a little DJing for my organization. To put it another way, I spoofed pilots into thinking that a jet transport plane was going to crash nearby using a digital sound effects CD that I had.

So no, I would never crank that system up if I had it over here.

Music needs some level of volume.

I run KEF 105.4 reference monitiors powered by a pair of Quad 405's strapped into mono, with a Quad pre.

The speakers are spiked into a stack of concrete slabs which extend through the floor-boards of my living room into the concrete foundations under the house. This stops the bass resonating the hollow chamber under the room and tightens the bass immensely. I can run this loud enough to vibrate small objects off of my neighbours shelves, but very rarely run it that loud...

Our houses are 1930's builds and are very solid, I can run at a good level without bothering next door.

In the studio I tend to monitor very quietly for the most part to protect my hearing in long sessions, around 85db, but always run around 120db for checking mix balances.

Current loud favourites: Audioslave/Soundgarden/Rush/Zep.

as a musician i had a marshall 100 watt half stack ( www.marshallamps.com ) in my kitchen, 4 x 12" jackson speakers in straight cabinet...big noise indeed

too loud for stereo, though...but i knew a guy who had a similar setup, marshall amp, four speaker marshall cabinet, and rigged up in his truck for all to see and he blasted rap from it...more highs and mids but not a great bass end response

i see you are a gibson user...that's required for led zep...also toss in a brown fender telecaster, danelectro lipstick pickup six string, and gibson sg doubleneck and you are stylin in the jimmy page mode

first off, sorry les kern...cluthz and i got off on a guitar-music tangent instead of a listening-music discussion ;)...classic rock at higher volumes interests me much more than death metal or rap at high volumes...that is if i chose to listen to anything at a high decibel level

ok, cluthz...i hear you concerning the bigsby trems on gretsch guitars...i had one on an old '68 telecaster and i couldn't use it much live or in practice or else it would go out of tune...but i had a yamaha superstrat with a floyd and i was able to dive bomb on it over and over and stay perfectly in tune...before that, i had a esp parts guitar with a kahler locking trem and that also stayed in tune very well

i don't much like the floyd rose trem and heavy music much these days but i still like the ibanez joe satriani js-1000 (with dimarzios) and the esp kirk hammet signature model (with emg 81s) but they are both over $1500 usd with case so it won't be anything i would buy...heck with that money, i would spring for a mac :)

I like my music loudddddd, i have an old, but still impressive, technics/B&W system that rocks. It reminds me everyday how little speaker technology has changed the end sound.
As i am a teenager i love my hip hop/R & B so i love to listen to bass heavy stuff real loud such as:

1. Depends on the genre:
I always play Metal at a higher volume, duh. Rock in general louder. Classical goes to medium volumes (sometimes I like opera loud), '80s is loud, and electronic can go either way. I always like my music louder in the car than at home, and prefer certain songs in either the car or at home.

2. Lately, I've been blasting these:

The entire Lateralus CD by Tool
Beethoven's 5th "Pastorale"
Apoptygma Berzerk - "Kathy's Song" (Corsten remix)
Stabbing Westward - Shame
Paul Simon "Late in the Evening" (I like it, so what)
Scissor Sisters cover of "Comfortably Numb"

These all go good in the car, my computer won't go loud enough for LOUD listening.

3. My G4 has el Cheapo Altec Lansings that are far to weak, I have an old (but expensive) set of Yamaha floor speakers with reciever/amp hooked up to the PS2/xbox.

P.S. I was kidding about the Comfortably Numb cover. I had to listen to the song after this thread (http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=58242) and I actually was in pain I laughed so hard. :D

Bjork: The hunter
Radiohead: the gloaming
god, I can't do this, there are too many.

Standard Ford Focus CD system. Not a big speaker modification guy, but my speaker's can and do cause hearing damage.

i almost always play my music loud.

can't specify one specific song since i listen to it all loud. music that i enjoy loud includes rock, rap, r&b, house and techno. will also listen to polynesian and certain classical songs loud. only genre that i don't listen to very loud is country, but give it time. :p

i have creative labs 5.1 speakers with an nforce 2 set up on my normal PC which is good enough for my purposes. otherwise, i'm using headphones for my pb or mp3 player. probably damaging my ear drums by blarring my tunes all the time.

Only when I'm dancing, which is not very often any more.

2. Loudest songs?
I'm an old guy, so I like my '80s music: Rock Lobster, Dead or Alive, Frankie, Prince, even a bit of '80s rap like Whodini or Grandmaster Flash.

3. Speakers?
For my computer, just the built-ins. However I've got a Cube I use as a music server in the living room hooked up to a stereo with Bose Acoustimass speakers. (Yeah, Bose, I know, but the wife wanted something small....)

Absolutely Loud. I listen to it loud no matter where I am..

in my A4 Convertible on it's bose sound system...

in my house with my Klipsch Reference Series 3 speakers...

on my iMac with the Creature speakers...

on my iPod with my Etymotic ER-6i headphones.

Of course at 33 I already have some hearing loss.

When I was in high school we used to listen to Def Leppard's Hysteria while we drove around aimlessly in Lawrence, KS with the windows up and the wal-mart stereo on as loud as the five or six speakers my friend put in his car. Can't remember the brand name but it was one of the no-name only available at wal-mart types.

He used to buy power boosters and just hook them up one after the other. heh. The best though was when he put 11 speakers of various types in his car and hooked them all up to the left channel on accident.

One thing that I remember when I would demo my system, is how folks would mention how crisp and clear the sound would be. The 1812 overature, including the cannon sounds, is a super way to test a system.

Songs with heavy drums, like "In the Air Tonight", sounded so great.

2) Achilles Last Stand - Led Zeppelin (Possibly Led Zeppelins best guitar solo...)
3) The Change of Seasons - Dream Theater (Loves the drums in part 1..)

Yeah, Billie Jean is also cool. Old MJ is something I admit to liking on occasion, however tragic.

Recently, though, if you get chance to pick up some Kramm (of Das Ich fame), 'most all of 'Coeur' deserves pumping at insane levels. It'll certainly test out your bass response.

I will keep my eye out. Thanks. Although, now I am limited to earphones. Sold my monster system. And do I miss it -- especially now as I am preparing for the upcoming ski season.

One of my favorites to listen to for all around skiing is Holiday (Madona). "Papa Don't Preach" (Madonna) is great for moguls or bumps as they call them over here.

But cruising on a clear day with the sun beaming down on a nice fresh powder slope, nothing beats "Crystal Blue Persuasion" by Tommy James & The Shandells. Nature, God and all that life is about. Damn, I'm psyched!

Focus - Hokus PocusThat's a coincidence - I played that CD (which isn't even mine - I stole from my brother's collection) yesterday. But not as loud as I play other music. I don't want the neighbors to complain about strange yodeling sounds in the neighborhood.

You're in Bergen? I like your city. I celebrated my 20th birthday there.

Yeah, they would probably think/(finally get a proof) that you're a lunatic if they heard loud rock music and yodeling from you apartment.. :p

yeah its a nice city... but... it's 20 cm snow here and the weather forecast said +2°C and rain tommorrow.. :(

Been there, done that. How's this for a shuffle (old days, was two 300 disc changers)

Went from Nine Inch Nails 'Closer' to Aaron Coplands Swiss Alps or whatever it was. Sure as hell faded out from '***** you like an animal' to yodeling.

Fortunately only my little sister was living with me at the time and heard it as I sprinted down the stairs to stop it. She was working nights and woke up to the cross over and thought she was having a nightmare.

Tell us.
1. Do you like your music LOUD
2. What's the song(s) you like to play loudest
3. What speakers you use

1. Most of the time.

2. I tend to crank up some orchestral pieces louder than rock songs. I'll usually set it so the quieter passages don't really seem that loud, but when something builds up in the music, you probably want to be outside my house if you don't enjoy that sort of thing :) I like having visitors in the house when that happens. They'll usually say it, but even when they don't, they still get that wide-eyed, 'Holy ******!!' look on their faces :D

A few that I seem to automatically crank up, in no particular order:
Beethoven - 9th
Orff - 'Carmina Burana'
Live - pretty much anything
Nixons - 'Sister'
Bob Marley and The Wailers - 'Could you be loved'
Bush - 'Machinehead'

and since we just recently celebrated 'Halloween':
J.S. Bach - 'Toccata in D Minor' (:p pipe organs can shake things off walls and shelves about as efficiently as rock music :D)
Concrete Blonde - 'Bloodletting'

3. My stereo speakers are Klipsch Reference Series (Mains are RF-7) hooked up to a Denon AVR-4802R. Computer speakers are some sort of THX certified Klipsch set (too lazy to look behind the subwoofer for a model name :)). Car stereo is a high end factory installed Bose system.

1. Do you like your music LOUD
Depends on what it is...plus I have to be careful; I live in a condo with people beside me and above me. Can't make it too loud.

2. What's the song(s) you like to play loudest
Dream Theater's "Awake" album, particularly "Erotomania."

3. What speakers you use
I've got a set of B&W DM602's.

1: In most cases, yes! :)

2: Good full-on Psytrance such as "Shift - Machine Soul" or for that matter anything that's just generally well composed and well made/recorded, unless it's chillout or similar as I most of the time listen to that at reasonable levels... :)

3: B&W 2 x DM604S3 on a NAD C372

...Good full-on Psytrance...

My best PsyTrance experience (indoor) was one night at a Sydney club I think with Dado / Deedrah... I distinctly remembered Klipsch speakers there... or maybe it was somewhere else.

But yeah... Deedrah or Protoculture on Klipsch home or at a venue would be awesome....

The sounds were like so powerful yet crispy clear ;)

1. Sometimes, though for daily listening, not really.

2. Absolute best album for blasting out of a stereo: Brian Eno's "Ambient 1: Music for Airports" ;)

Seriously, though, while it's not one of my favourite songs, the live version of Mansun's "Take it Easy Chicken" is fantastic when blasted (as is a lot of '90s British music with lots of guitars: Manic Street Preachers! Kula Shaker! Oasis! [many more]). Don't dare list actual favourite songs, as we could be here a while.

3. Headphones - Grado SR60 at home, Sennheiser PX100 on the go.

Btw, never krank up the volume on your headphones to the max, cuz you may
get tinnitus and you'll be sorry for doing that for the rest of your life.

Btw, i'm a musician, and i know, google for "tinnitus" if you don't know yet.

I always try to listen to my favourite band, Manic Street Preachers at as sensible a volume as I think my ears can get away with. Then you go to a gig and that sort of knocks that on the head...............................................................................

I love listening to music loud. I love listening to metal and music with loud, abrasive noises that annoy most people (like Ghosts I-IV). I use some old speaker system at home (not sure what brand), and I also do it in my car.

I have a 300 watt surround sound system in my small living room that I enjoy blaring from time to time. I enjoy loud music, but I have odd tastes of what I enjoy to be loud. For instance, "Don't Know Much" by Aaron Neville

1) Yes, although not to the point where it damages hearing
2) Pretty much anything good. Most recently, Jamiroquai's Space Cowboy, The Black Seeds' Cool Me Down, Bob Marley's Waiting In Vain & Natural Mystic etc...
3) Generally, B&W DM303s driven by a Beomaster 6500 (around 110wpc continuous I believe, although that would have been 15 years ago when it was built, not sure now). The 303s don't tend to sound so fantastic at high volumes. As far as really, really loud music goes, I have a PA rig in the studio, Yamaha Stagepas 500 + dB Technologies Sub 12. It may not be big, but it beats pretty much anything you'll find in the hifi market for out and out volume. I've measured 133 dB in the studio before, to which I often drum with ear-defenders on. Teenage angst...

I like medium-loud classical (i.e., Beethoven and Tchaikovsky). But a lot of classical doesn't belong loud.

Regardless, I never like it even close to where it might damage my hearing.

1. Do you like your music LOUD

Like most here, yes and no

2. What's the song(s) you like to play loudest

Everything by Jimi, most of the Stones, a good portion of LedZep, Miles, Horace Silver, the list goes on forever.

3. What speakers you use

I have vinyl and CDs (via iMac), through a Pioneer receiver, driving 2 Electro-Voice large base-reflex boxes, that are older than almost everyone here.

Beethoven's 5th "Pastorale"

Couldn't help pointing this error out being the Classical buff that I am. I love both Beethoven's 5th and 6th, but his 6th is called "Pastorale". ;)

Regardless, Beethoven's 5th sure sounds good loud.

It depends entirely on the type of music. Trance: Loud. Rock: Loud. Mozart: Soft. Atmospheric: soft.

So let's see..
1. Do you like your music LOUD? Sometimes.
2. What's the song(s) you like to play loudest? Du Hast, Love You More, New Gold Dream, Lunatic Fringe, Sorrow, et al.
3. What speakers you use? Stock. They're in my car. Other than this, I've got a pair of professional studio headphones that are great (albeit they drain the battery on my iPod a bit more quickly)

Too bad the speakers in my car suck. They're starting to buzz because I only listen to the heavy stuff in my car...
