Ol' Dirty Bastard, a founding member of the Wu-Tang Clan, died of unknown causes on Saturday in New York, according to his spokesperson. He was 35, but would have turned 36 on Monday.

Sources close to the rapper (whose real name was Russell Tyrone Jones) said he had complained of chest pains earlier in the day, although no further details are available as of yet. ODB had been scheduled to perform with Wu-Tang at a concert in New Jersey on Friday night, but missed the show.

Another source reported that ODB arrived in the New York area on a flight from Denver at 10:30 p.m. Friday. He was at Wu-Tang's studio, 36 Records LLC on West 34th Street in New York, when he collapsed at approximately 4:35 p.m. on Saturday (November 13). He was pronounced dead at 5:04 p.m., according to Ellen Borakove, a spokesperson for the city medical examiner's office. She said that an autopsy will be conducted Sunday, and results should be known Sunday afternoon.

Meh, he lived life "on the edge" like he wanted, and he died. Not a big deal when you think about it. If that's the life you want to live, then that's your decision and your risk towards your safety and health. I can't feel bad because that's how he chose to live his life. It's better than living a conventional life until you're 87 when "conventional" is something you're truly not.

I'll always remember him as the dirty bastard that he was....

RIP ODB.

Shimmy shimmy ya, he liked it raw, shimmy shimmy ya.

More entertaining for his incursions with the law.

Don't think that I have ever heard of Ol' Dirty Bastard. My prayers go out to his family and friends. May he rest in peace. If it was his heart that if certainly at a very young age. Would probably been some family history. So will have to wait for an autopsy.

An autopsy conducted Sunday morning revealed no conclusive results. Toxicology and tissue tests will be administered and the cause of death is expected to be known within 10 days.

as you know...celebrities die in sets of three. i told my friend that rick james died, then ODB, and he said that beetlejuice was next!! oh, take pity on the world!! not beetlejuice!

at least, from what i've been told ;), they will be providing grief counselors (sp?) at all elementary schools to help the kids cope with the loss of ODB. it was mandated by George Dubya.
