Hi
Iv seen there is an update coming for the iMac and mac pro coming at the end if summer. USB 3.0 and faster FireWire. Does anybody think that it will get HDMI so I could plug my xbox 360 in? I'll be buying one when the update comes anybody else?
Cheers

USB 3.0 and faster FW were just rumors, there is no guarantee that they will be included. HDMI output is possible but I doubt we'll see HDMI input as Apple thinks the input is only for other Macs

Does that mean no xbox 360 connection?
Also does the graphics look awesome when the 360 is connected to the imac 27"?
Cheers

I don't know what THIS (http://www.appleinsider.com/articles/10/07/21/apples_27_imac_only_supports_native_or_720p_video_input_no_1080p.html) means, but beware.

It also costs at least 150$ from what I understand. Bleh!

HDMI would be much better, as would the addition of esata or I guess USB3 would be fine as well.

Also... the glare when the screen gets dark is ridiculous. It's like a mirror.

Also, the refresh rate on those monitors is about 14ms IIRC, so not good for gaming.
and the resolution of the monitor is way different from the standard 1920x1080, so while your xbox upscales the image from 720p, the monitor will downscale to 1080p, and I seriously doubt that it has a good scaler, since it doesn't really need to.
In other words, just get a tv for gaming and you will never regret it, EVEN IF apple were to put hdmi in

That's normal for IPS displays. Only crappy TNs achieve those ridiculous response times. I'm not sure how this really affects gaming, it seems to be a marketing scheme rather than a feature. You're right on the quality though, a TV is a lot better because LCDs aren't great when running non-native res

If the 27" gets a hot new GPU and USB3 I'd be surprised if there wasn't a price hike of $50-100.

I saw the add for the Macbook and iMac on frys.com to be $100 dollars off of the retail price and I am sure that they are not allowed to sell for a lot less without Apples consent. Is this further proof that the refresh is soon, or does the fact that the Macbook is also cheaper contradict my idea. Oh and the Airport extreme I believe was $20 dollars cheaper.

Slightly cheaper solution that the EyeTV is the Kanex (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W1ZJqBTu9Nk).

It is a real PITA to replace the HD in the imac. One of the real drawbacks to the basic design. :(

There are 120Hz (~8ms) AND 240Hz (~4ms) LCD HDTVs with outstanding display quality. I don't think these are TNs.

Most TVs, especially larger ones are S-PVA or P-MVA as far as I know. E-IPS which is currently the best IPS has response time of 5ms I think. Anyway, unless you're a gamer, the response time does not matter. Even if you are, I doubt you will notice any difference

I think they were develop having 3D TV in mind (and yes, fast moving action).

Don't think it will happen with HDMI on iMac.

No USB3 ===> esata hack alternative
