hi macforum members. i'm new here. i'm looking for an iphone4 dock that isn't apple branded. reason being is that their dock doesn't support iphones that have a case around it.

i don't want to make my own out of paper clips, pencils and rubberband either. i'm willing to spend less money than an apple branded dock.

i want it to be simple, clean, and functional.

have any suggestion?

Look no further than Made 2 Dock. It's pretty popular around here. Works with most cases.

Honestly, you can make your own out of a block of wood, paint it however you wish and do it rather quickly if you have the tools and creativity.

You can even go here and make one out of cardboard. I have used this one at work and have for months.

thanks for the tip!

wow, it fits into the desk holes. that's pretty ingenious. i like the look too. looks way better than apple's.

but i'm looking to spend a little less than $30. i'm looking for $10-20 shipped. is that not possible in today's consumer electronics world?

Unless you make your own, yeah not possible.

You can pay $30 for a iPhone 4 dock that cannot be used with a bumper or $50 (?) for a Universal Dock...but of course, made by Apple.

$30 for made2docks but just about any case will fit in it and there very nice.

i guess not very many people know about it?
looks cool. i'm gonna contact the youtuber to see how he likes it so far.
i guess it's like $15 on their main site but he said on ebay it's cheaper.

you know what? that's actually worth it's price for it's multifunctionality. i'll bookmark that.

but i'm looking for an away from a computer dock that's near my bed, plugged into a wall like the video i found. but that would be perfect for desktop purposes. thanks for your suggestion! :D

Just be aware that you can't use this dock if you're using Apple's bumper. Numerous reviews on Amazon mention that point, and it's been brought up on this forum as well.

Obviously a non issue if you're using a different case!

I actually went on Amazon and just ordered it. It looks quite impressive and does what it's supposed to do.

Now I have a made2dock for my pc and this one for the table next to my bed.

I have this dock and like it. I had to modify my apple bumper via a dremel tool like others on the forum did and it works great. Other cases with open bottom access to the port work fine.

Yeah I like everything about this one but the price. :(

I am sick of not having some type of dock for next to the bed. I don't mind no dock when syncing to my MBP, but I want it standing next to the bed.

Sorry for the lighting. The lighting in my room is terrible. The paint doesn't help much cause it's a light yellow, lol. I consider this my iP4 shrine. In total under $40!

Yeah, thanks for posting the Sinjimoru one, reliantj! Oh, and you've got another subscriber to your videos. Well done!

BTW, the iPhone 4 shrine cracked me up...maybe it was the weird lighting, but it got a smile out of me.

Thanks again! I've been looking for a stand like that for a long time!

I really like that sinjimoru dock, but I'm just worried that it might be too lightweight. It's only 2.1 ounces according amazon.com. Does the phone feel like it is going to tip backwards if you push on it? I also read that there needs to be more rubber on the feet because it slides around on a desk. I'm kind of torn between the sinjimoru and the made2dock. The made2dock seems like it doesn't give the phone much back support. Does the phone tip forward and back in the made2dock? It basically looks like a dock without a dock adapter in it.

I wish Griffin would update the AirCurve to work with the iPhone 4 and Contour would release their flick case. I used that combo for nearly 2 years with my iPhone 3G. heh.

it is really light which you can see from my video. you need two hands to remove the iP4 from the stand. an inconvenience against more positive points.
as for flipping backwards- the base is wide enough to support the iP4 and haven't had any thought to it falling over, but my set up is against a wall.
for the rubber feet- once the phone is docked, the weight of the phone pretty much holds it all down.
i was thinking of putting a low tack adhesive to the bottom to give it more of a hold, but i just haven't had any problems with it except for having to use 2 hands to undock it. my only gripe.

That is pretty cool. It seems kind of big though. I have a Crate & Barrel store about 10 miles from me, maybe I'll go see if they have them in store.

Anyway I ended up going with the Luxa2 H1-Touch stand. It works like a dock and a stand so I figured it was the best of both worlds. I got it for about 34 dollars shipped from tigerdirect.com and there is also cashback from bing at 15%. It might get kind of annoying to have to manually push the cable into the phone every time though. Oh well we'll see. The shinjimoru is next on my list if the Luxa2 doesn't work out.

It had an A- at iLounge until Thermaltake raised the price on it: http://www.ilounge.com/index.php/reviews/entry/luxa2-h1-touch-mobile-holder-for-iphone-and-ipod-touch/

Another option if you are feeling adventurous is to to modify an older (and very inexpensive on eBay) Apple dock. I modded a universal dock to fit my iPad. It also holds the iP4 nicely - with or without a case....and it also gives me: remote control capability, audio line out & video out.

the seller's name is Cyanics i think, here's a link

it's called the Sinjimoru Sync Stand. they've got other products as well including the iDock which i'm interested in since i still have a cassette deck which produces better sound than a transmitter.

Btw to those buying the sinjimoru dock on ebay. look for their auctions. some people might not bid higher than you and you may be able to pick it up for a cheaper price. if not, they may give a second chance offer with a cheaper price as well.

Does the Sinjimoru stand work for a naked iPhone 4? I've heard that with the angle of the 30-pin connector, the phone isn't thick enough to be supported by the rear part of the stand, so that the only thing holding it up is the connector itself.

Has anyone tried this? Is it true?

I'm the original poster of the video. So a tip from me to all of you, if you've got an ebay account.

Go for the auction if you're patient enough. It could so happen that you win the bid at a lower price. Then it can also happen that if you do lose, they could offer you another stand at a lower price than $15. That's why i love ebay.

cheers.

PS. I can confirm that it works well without a case.

So I just got my Sinjimoru dock in the mail and I have to say I love the look of it. I did have to make it support my iphone in a little more veritcal position to work with the ebay case I got in the mail with it. When the phone leans back against the support the ridges on the bottom of the case cause it to pop off the dock connector just enough to disconnect it. I had a stand laying around from my incase slider that I had on my 3gs and I just sort of clipped that on the back and now the dock works great with my case. Overall I am very happy with it and for $15 shipped you cant beat it.

More then two pages of posts and no one mentions the Amzer iGlobe?!? (http://www.amzer.com/Amzer-iGlobe-Charging-Dock-P88125.htm) I got one and I LOVE it! You can charge multiple devices, with or without cases, by just sliding the charging port :D

They have knock offs on eBay but I didn't want to wait a month to get it from China. I think they are around $15-$20.

Highly recommend it!

I bought one those eBay knock-offs of the Amzer iGlobe, received it within a few days, and have since put it away.

I was hoping what with the sliding charge port that it would work with the Bumpers, but plastic surrounding the charge port is too big for the bumper's recessed opening, causing the phone to sit too high to make a connection.

A real shame, since I really liked the design and look of the iGlobe.

I just received my "slant" Made2Dock today and it fits the iPhone4 + Bumper PERFECTLY. This has to be one of the sweetest Bumper-compatible docks out there. The price is very reasonable as well.
