I went in there for a faulty charger. It was covered in the warranty. Didn't need any paper work, but I'd bring in your receipt as proof of purchase.
 
i took a mini ipod back to a store in LA,that i brought in uk.no proof of purchase.and they just gave me a new one.no hassle.which i think was cool.the click wheel stopped working.so i then sold it and got a 20g 4th gen
