Can Mac mini's HDMI port do 2560-by-1600?

On Apple's Technical Specifications page for the Mac mini, it says "HDMI port with support for up to 1920-by-1200 resolution." Is that correct? If I were to use a HDMI to DVI Dual Link Cable, could it then support 2560-by1600?

I really want to know, because a generic HDMI to Dual-Link DVI cable costs around $15, whereas Apple's Mini DisplayPort to Dual-Link DVI Adapter costs $99.

What do you think?

The vast majority of HDMI ports on computers don't support anything higher than 1920x1200, sadly.

I highly doubt that, unless it's HDMI 1.4. Although in theory, HDMI 1.3a should support resolutions up to 2560x1600, hardly anyone seem to implement those possibilites in their products.

For your Mac Mini, to use that resolution, you'd have to go from Mini DisplayPort to Dual-Link DVI or something down those lines.

I have a mid-2010 Mini on my HDTV (1920x1080) and it supports HDMI output 1920x1200 period.

The Mini DisplayPort output supports up to 2560x1600 which I use on my new HP ZR30w @ 2560x1600. By the way the HP comes with a 3 year warranty (extendable to 5 years for $159 more) and the Dual-link DVI cable is included in the price.

You can use both on the Mini at the same time, but I have not tried to view both at the same time.
