Asians, particularly Koreans, use ^^ a lot instead of the traditional :-) or :) or =)

When you see ^^, do you naturally recognize it as a smiley?

Do you already use it? I've seen my European friends using it on MSN.

Why would eyebrows be considered a smiley?

He's missing the lips from the smiley. It's suppose to look like ^_^

it's an anime inspired smilely. I use that type of smiley when writing for anime fans. ^_-

I didn’t say I’d ever use it. :) However, at least it actually has a mouth. And no, I’ve never seen much anime stuff.

except for the occasional Hentai movie.

I see the double things like that and think it's a reply to the post above it.

Guess I was wrong.

I just check out what you've been posting today. You're trying to see how long it takes you to get banned, right? That's hilarious.

In forums like this, I get it to mean the post above.

In Asian/Anime forums (I don't ever visit em, but some of my friends do, and if they link me something) I reference it to mean a smiley face.

My friends on IM/Text use it, and it doesn't bother me one bit. Though, I still don't see myself ever using it.

I use normal smileys like :) ;) :P :D :(

Oh, another one that one of my friends uses a lot is ;_; meaning crying. I get it, but I still don't see myself ever using it.

I use it regularly, so does Queso actually!

If you play any MMO these days you'll see Asian and Western leet and emoticons come together and reference each other. I even see some young guys using kekekeke and knowing why they use it, which is kinda cool.

88888 55555 are maybe the most common Asian ones. 8's are ba's, that's pinyin for the Chinese character for 8. Ba sounds like bye.. baba = bye bye, so you'll see them spam 8888888 when they want to finish a convo. That's cool for us, because that's Asians referencing and using English sounds alongside their own language.

5's are wo's which sound like our wahh's (but for them more like wuhh), like crying as a baby does, so they'll use 5555's to denote sadness or crying.

I bet most people who use chat like MSN or in game on an MMO will have used or have seen Asian style emoticons but just didn't know it.

Everyone knows these: (o.O) (^o^) (<.<)

You probably use some form of them like Oo or ^^ or << for speed when you're gaming :)

A single " ^ " will always mean reference to the post above to me. I'm not sure I would have realized ^^ was short lazy for ^_^ without this thread. Ya learn something every day.

Because I'm a silly I like to butcher them up with ^___________^ and ^_DFG::&^;;;'.

Actually, I did not use (or know) them before finding MacRumors. Here I saw some members use them and realize that those are meant to be smilies.
