As conventional wisdom is 4870=5770, did we finally get a decent video card for all Macs?

ATI has always (so far) supported UBC, which would mean all the way back to 2006 Mac pros.

Would be a wonderful thing.

Need to see that rom.

5770 equal to a 4870, and doesn't need power feeds? Wow, I'm actually impressed for once, and great news for the older Mac Pro owners.

Though to be fair I'm waiting for the 5870 to hit Apple's retail....

Check those numbers !!!

While Apple's assertion that new base card outscores old high end only applies to ATI, still some might nice specs.

Don't think we have ever seen such a jump from base cards. 2600XT to 5770 is a LEAP.

Can't wait for ROMs and drivers !!!

Pretty damn good - 4870 1GB scores the same as the 5770 1GB. This should also mean it's slightly faster than my stock Apple 4870 512MB. Lovely upgrade really, and far better than the awful GT120 or 2600XT.

Yes, for once we have a decent card as base.

A new thing. Let's hope they continue.

I'm going to get a 5770 to start fiddling.

My guess is that new Pro's will have their own "special" OS disk which will have complete drivers, as I doubt 10.6.5 will be out in time.

Although...."August" can mean another 30 days.

Plus, 5770 runs cooler and draws less power (about 50%) and it has nice OC abilities from what I've read.
