I will use the iMac to view and edit personal photos, and game (quite a lot).

What will you choose?

i5 brings Turbo Boost, i3 doesn't. If that matters, then cough up for the the i5.

I went with the i5, as I intend to use my iMac for gaming, as well. But I wouldn't say it's a necessary upgrade, for that. The graphics card will probably pose more of a bottleneck, in the long run, than the processor.

Funny they'd screw up so bad in multiple places. Too bad this isn't something special for apple.
