It's not always immediate.

They are just waiting for my 14-day refurb return policy to end, and then they are going to drop like flies. So I would say next Tuesday look for a price drop. ;)

Why should they go down? Refurb iMacs (at least quad versions) are more attractive price-wise then the new iMacs right now, so they will sell well.

Is this true that the prices will drop? I just ordered a refurb i5 last night, would hate to think I could've got it cheaper

I only see 3 items in UK refurb store. There were loads this morning though! Argh!

My understanding is that refurbished prices do not go go down-you'll just ending buying a higher 'spected computer for the same price.

I received my 27" i5 today (awesome) but the price has dropped this morning by £110 (not-so-awesome). Just waiting to find out from Apple if they will credit me the difference. If not, it will be going back!

I would appreciate some advice as to whether I should go for the new iMac 27 I7 or go for an ex-demo, fully guaranteed one?
The difference is (as far as I can see) that the refurb has an Intel 2,8 GHz chip (versus the 2,93 on the new machines) and an ATI Radeon HD 4850 with 512 MB (versus the new HD 5750 1GB)
I have been through the specs comparing the late-09 models with the new ones and these are the only differences I can see...unless someone can tell me different.
The price difference is 1700 Euros versus 2179 Euros so, whilst we are talking about a significant saving, I don't want to regret it in the months to come if the performance is markedly different. (I am running CS4 apps plus the general office nonsense and digging around Ableton Live. I don't do games.)
First post and all that so thanks for reading me. I'd appreciate your feedback.:)

I noticed the same thing - the prices have dropped a lot. Hope you manage to get the credit.

No joy I'm afraid. They only offered me £50 credit so it's being sent back. Silly really because it will cost them far more than that to return and reprocess it but that's their decision

That's annoying. I wonder how long it will take for the old models to sell out as 'refurbs'. I hope you manage to get one. I'm pissed because the i5 quad that arrived Monday needs to go back, but the whole refund process takes so long, it probably won't be a couple of weeks at least until I get a new one (or longer for an i7 due to being BTO) as I don't have the money to buy until the refund comes through.

Yes, I'm kind of in the same boat where I could actually buy another one right now but I'd rather wait until I have confirmation that they've given me the money.
The way I look at it is even if they do sell out of the i5s, it won't be long until the new generation ones arrive in the refurb store at around the same price. I'm in no rush so I'll wait and see what happens
