People keep poking my screen

I wonder if complaints like this were a factor in Apple's introduction of the glass casing on the iMac.
Actually, they got the idea from me...

Why doesn't Apple just place a piece of glass over the LCD?
This idea has crossed my mind before...

The iMac's screen is not flush to the rest of the assembly (like the iPods), but rather is set in about 1/8 of an inch. Would it be possible to get a piece of glass (perhaps custom cut) to place in this spot to protect the screen? Maybe it could be held in with clear tape placed over the corners. :confused:

I am curious as to why Apple didn't implement this in their education iMac - they could have made the front of the iMac similar to the front of an iPod, therefore protecting the screen.

The best way to deal with it is perhaps to carry a piece of lens cloth around with you, and when anyone pokes the screen, cough loudly and start carefully and lovingly rubbing the afflicted area with the lens cloth.

You will then reveal yourself as the obsessive nerd that you are and people might be a little more considerate the next time :p

I remembered this thread today, because I had a couple of guests over my house and this woman kept on touching, poking, and rubbing my LCD TV with her finger and, what's worse, with her nails!!!!!

I have a Mac mini connected to the TV and we were showing Google Earth on it. She obsessively and impulsively drew circles around her home on the map using the nail of her index finger and even pressed on the display as to cause a visible distortion of the liquid in the display. It was horrible!!!!

Unfortunately, I was in a bad situation where telling her something might have been interpreted badly, so I just quickly moved on to something else that did not involve anything that might cause her to continue on her poking rampage.

Good lord, the other day this girl pointed to something on the screen on my brand new macbook and not only did she touch it, but she kept pushing against it, making the liquid crystals warp until finally I had to say something. :eek:

i hate it when people touch my screen. or when they touch their screen. especially at work, when they touch it with a pencil!

Go to their office, eating crunchy cheese doodles and start pointing on their screens....shouldn't take long for them to get the picture :D

Better yet, order some greasy, greasy, greasy deep-fried chicken and eat that at the same time you type on their keyboard and point to their screen/touch their screen, that should make them happy when you smear grease all over the place. Nothing like the smell of greasy chicken remains on your computer in the mornings.

Why do people treat monitors like touchscreens? When they see a pretty picture or interesting text on my Mac, they often touch it (or try to) while talking about it. I used to put up with it, and clean my CRT screen now and then. Now that I have LCD screens, I'm more worried about it.

Is the surface in real danger when they jab their pointy fingers at it? Will fingers, especially fingernails, damage the screen?

I've been asking coworkers and friends not to touch my displays at work and at home, but I'd like to know just how much of an issue I should make of this.

Hmm, I have a fastidious friend just like you, gets very upset when I point to something on the LCD screen and just barely touch it with tips of fingernails and end of finger, while pointing to a spot on the screen. You know, he is such a butthead, I need to point and lightly touch the screen to hammer in the point of emphasis to the stubborn ignoramous. Then he gets all insulting claiming I'm smearing up his screen (while continuing to refuse to acknowledge his flawed logic on the point I'm making), and he's got to use industrial cleaner/needs to steam clean it with high-pressure gun to remove my greasy finger prints from his keyboard and screen. Too lazy to clean his screen and keyboard I guess. I suppose he has no natural oils on his skin then, dry as a dead horse leather, hippo-creet. ;)

What point can you possibly make by touching the screen? Don't kid yourself - you never get your point across by antagonizing someone. All you do is put them further on the defensive. This is basic human interaction.

And it's not a matter of having no natural oils on your skin - it's a matter of not EVER having a legitimate need to touch the screen. Do people have sensory integration issues where they feel they can't confirm to themselves that they've effectively pointed to something without the tactile feedback of their fingers touching the screen?

Do as I did and get a sticker from GetDigital (http://www.getdigital.de/products/Aufkleber_touchscreen).
It doesn't seem to help to 100% though, last week a guy in my class put his finger at my poor iBook screen so that it kept shaking for about 10 secs. :(
Poor thing, I still havn't got the fingerprint all removed.
