in Safari:
Window Menu-Activity
option-double click on the file you want to download (in your example it should be something like "moviename.mov")

As far as I know, you need QuickTime Pro. There might be some other free alternatives, but that's the one you can rely on.

I don't think you need quicktime pro to download from the activity panel in the window menu by option-double clicking on the movie. Finding it in the activity pane is much easier then looking through the source code for the location of the file.

If you are using Safari you can hold down the option key while clicking on the link, it'll then download to your desktop or whatever. That's only if it's a direct link to the file, if it's embedded in the page you have to look at the source, find the location of the file, copy & paste it into your address bar, and hold down the option key while hitting the go button.

sometimes it's necessary to use the unix curl command.

what if it's, say, one of those trailers where you have to "click here to begin". Does anyone know how to download those? because all you get with the activities menu or with the source is the "click here to begin" frame, not the entire movie.

This works with flash movie files that "play" over the internet.

With the movie window still open, goto the finder and select "go to folder" under the "go" menu. Type /tmp. Inside the resulting window you will find some strangely named files, find the biggest file and duplicate it. rename it ending with .swf and move it out of the folder. Use Safari to open the resulting file.

It is very simple get the freeware program iGetmovies from versiontracker.com

Yeah, I tried using that, but for some reason the saved .mov file wouldn't open with Quicktime. Not even VLC.

just out of curiosity, what is the web address of the movie you are trying to download? what web page is it on?
