Exposé sometimes poops out on me, and does that too, all you need to is hit the F9 button to fix it. (or what ever you have exposé set to)
Your Mac is punishing you for putting too many icons on the desktop. 😀
I get that too on occasion. Using Expose usually refreshes things. Also check if your mouse button is stuck in place.
Worst case scenario: restart.
