2010 iMac SSD speeds?

Hey guys,

Has anybody received a new 2010 iMac with an SSD yet? Because I'd really like to see some read/write speeds! Also, what brand and model is the SSD?

I love the idea of it. But apple needs some reasonable pricing. 256Gb for £700 is ridiculous.

Apple used Toshiba SG2 in 2010 MBPs and they have 230MB/s read and 180MB/s write and terrible random access speed. HG3 series has slightly faster read speed. I would expect that Apple uses the same drives in iMacs as well and there aren't that many 256GB drives

Did you read the review? It sounded pretty decent to me. Not crazy fast but the degradation test had favorable results. That is what I am concerned with considering what OWC is saying about how bad the stock Mac SSD's are.

The review is actualy pretty decent. 0.1ms access time is not bad and almost no performance loss because the drive supports TRIM. The question is if OSX supports TRIM as well or is it sth entirely independent on the OS?

I sent some benchmarks to Barefeat's, so look for something soon.

It's a good drive though.

100MB file is 213 MB/s read and 170 MB/s write
5MB file is 215 MB/s read and 240 MB/s write

Randoms & Smalls are quite good too.

Whats ironic is boot sequence is fast on the computer, but the EFI bios is the thing that takes the longest. it's also the longest I've seen on a mac :(

...no TRIM support in OSX, hopefully 10.7 or sooner?...

yea, there's no TRIM in OS X..

I'm sure the Apple drives are decent, but for the price... definitely not.

I guess the only option is to wait for a teardown from ifixit.com, that'll probably give us final answer.

Well for that price, I'd demand a bit more than this drive. It seems to be quite low-end for today's standards, doesn't it?

To my understanding it is because you need an os that makes use of the drive's TRIM capability to retain performance over time. OSX does not support TRIM whereas the OS in the review does ...

I am really interested in someone posting the serial number for the SSDs too, as I've waited for them to refresh the iMacs with an SSD option, and I would love an SSD backing up an i7, but it needs to be worth the money they're charging!
