I'd like to lead with the following statement: I'm not even sure if this is possible. Now that that's taken care of, I'd like to explain what I'm trying to do.

I just upgraded my late '06 iMac to SL. My late '07 MacBook is running SL. Since I have way too many computers (two laptops plus the iMac plus an iPad) I'd like to be able to use them all together seamlessly. Particularly the iMac and the MacBook. When those two are sitting next to each other on the desk, I'd like to be able to download a file onto the iMac's hard drive and then just drag it over the IRL divide onto the MacBook. Without dragging it through Finder windows. Literally picking the file up, dragging it over past the right-hand edge of the iMac's screen into the left-hand side of the MacBook's screen and onto the desktop. The best way I can describe what I'd like to do is turn both of the computers into each others' external monitors that each actually have computing power.

If you managed to understand what I'd like to do and have any idea about how I can go about doing this, I'd really love to hear your ideas. Thanks!

Just turn on file sharing and you can easily access the files in each computer. What you said isn't possible as far as I know

Yeah, I don't see that happening. I use Dropbox basically for what you're doing. I've also been meaning to check out Goodsync I think it's called, but Dropbox is a great way to organize stuff across multiple computers/locations.

Perhaps you should have a look at Synergy+? I'm not sure if it supports file transfers but for regular mouse and keyboard work it's quite nice. I haven't usedit in a while though, since I have no use for it at the moment.

teleport lets you use a single mouse and keyboard to control several Macs.
Simply reach an edge of your screen, and your mouse teleports to your nearby Mac, which also becomes controlled by your keyboard. The pasteboard can be synchronized, and you can even drag & drop files between your Macs.
