Get 21,5" advanced with Apple Care or with i5?

Well, I have the money, and I can't afford more than that.

I'm wondering if I should get it with Apple Care or with the i5 upgrade.

Probably AppleCare, but since you don't provide any helpful information as to why you might (or more likely, might not) need the i5, it's tough to say.

Isn't there only one type available for the 21.5" model, the dual core i5 680 3.6GhZ? For some reason many people in these forums start to talk about the quad cores even though it should be pretty clear (there aren't that many iMac models) that 21.5" -models do no have QC-setups.

Yes , and much cheaper :)

...although some people have fear of it, of buying it in ebay... they fear that the serial number they buy won't be valid or valid all the time.

Also, an i5 680 is never worth it. It's not actual 4 physical cores

As a suggestion, buy AppleCare for your desired iMac later. For me, I'm buying AppleCare in month 11 (after purchase). Thus, allowing me 11 months to save up for it. re: $20 / month for 11 months. Or, $5 per week in my iMac future upgrade jar. :) If I don't spend my monthly saved up dollars on AppleCare, I'll probably buy an external HD (for backups) or perhaps a better printer / Scanner. Only time will tell... Perhaps a "future upgrade iMac jar" would work for you as well....

I was planning to do this, and then I didn't have to because apple replaced my MacBook pro in month 10, so I had another year to wait to buy it :)

I don't see why you would do that. :confused: According to Apple, they will only "extend your coverage to three years from your hardware product’s original purchase date with the AppleCare Protection Plan." (Bold added) All you do is give up 10 months of phone support.

Why wait to pay AppleCare???? Because I can use "this Christmas" or "my birthday" (in the late spring) as a formal excuse to buy it. By that time, I'll have some or most of the needed dollars saved up.

Phone support past 1 month??? There's lots of iMac forums who can help with my initial questions. If too many questions and not enough help, I'll order AppleCare - to get formal phone support.

Search L.A. Computer company, they have good applecare prices also... if you go Amazon, make sure it IS from Amazon also and not another 3rd party vendor...

Neither ship to FPO military addresses so I usually ship to a friend and get it re-shipped.
