View Full Version : November 26 Discounts in Apple Retail Stores?

MacRumors
Nov 23, 2004, 11:20 AM
Some Apple retail stores show signs of having special deals on Friday, November 26, the day after the U.S. Thanksgiving holiday and the traditional kickoff of the holiday shopping season.

Last year (http://www.macrumors.com/pages/2003/11/20031120221109.shtml), Apple offered 10% off on iPods and iPod accessories on the day after Thanksgiving.

[Update] - A graphic (http://a248.e.akamai.net/7/248/2041/663/store.apple.com/Catalog/US/Images/store_top_teaser.gif) at the online Apple Store hints at savings without giving details.

Ca-ching!! Apple is going to be reeling in the iPod profits big-time that day. I think I'll be stopping by the Michigan Avenue store here in Chicago to see what's up.

They're listing the new London Apple Store as taking part in this, so hopefully we'll be getting some discount goodness over the pond too!

Apple's online store is also looking that way...they have a graphic that mentions good things on that day.

I'm not too hyped as I can get the educational discount, which is usually about 10% off the regular price. I believe that Apple is going to do a 10% off all Apple products, instead of just ipods like they did two years ago.

Sounds like this applies to both the online store and retail stores. Since I don't have a retail store in my area I hope this is true.

Last year it included 3rd party iPod accessories. I distinctly remember the inMotion speakers being 10% off for example because I almost bought them that day.

For Apple to have a promotion like this is no big surprise. However, I can't cash in on it as I have no plans to buy any Apple hardware or software (or anything else that would qualify for the discount). I'll have to wait until 2005 or 2006 to take advantage of these offers.

Hmmm ... "Perfect".

Perfect.

Perfect.

Perfect.

WordPerfect? Is Apple going to buy WordPerfect on Wednesday, take the day off Thursday, and bundle WordPerfect with its iOffice suite on Friday?!?

Seriously, though. Any ideas as to what the "Perfect" repitition might be alluding?

By the looks of it, PERFECT is aiming towards accessories which will also include 3rd party digital cameras(corders), etc...

As in the PERFECT companion for your Mac. :)

so my guess is yes 10% off and if you have EDU pricing it might not apply. :( Though that 20% would really sound neat. :D

I'm trying to be happy for everyone that'll benefit from this mysterious discount, but part of me is really pissed that I just got my new 12" powerbook last thursday. *Deep breath*

I should be grateful that I was able to use my educational discount and the Nov 26th special will probably not be on top of that, right?

Oh well, maybe next year.

The little tag might be leading into a few things, but I don't know if it will be limited to that or not. A full store 10% discount would rock, especially if it stacked with EDU, but that is doubtful.

At 20% off I would almost jump to purchase a new one instantly, although I know Moore would come back to kick my butt come Jan when Jobs tell me about the G6 powerbook that has built-in spaceage cooling elements with no need for fans, its only .5" thin and has the new X800 XT card in it - 256 ddr3 :D

So yea, since that probably will not happen, unless the EDU stacks with other deals, I'll let the rest of you get happy off this one, I am waiting until Jan.

You can bet that the AE cards will have the 10% on them. :) Given that Apple has to compete with the wintel world when it comes to wireless as standard. Look at the iBook with AE included, plus AE is becoming old and has gotten cheap. The markup profit margin on it is quite large. Apple and other companies making these cards most likely makes them for 10-20 dollar each (considering licensing and manufacturing along with other labour costs).

Anyhow I feel at current WiFi is over hyped. Now if they had a cable and dsl modem in one along with a wireless router that is a/b/g compliant that would be something to be excited about. :D

I know BB is having some pretty cool BF deals, including one about an iPod with speaker stand and some other stuff.

Best Buy - 20GB iPod and inMotion Speaker Dock w/ $15 Download Card to iTunes Music Store - $399.99

I have not looked at iPods all that much, so I do not know the value of that inMotion speaker dock, but the whole thing seems to be a pretty neat deal. Can anyone comment on the deal with more experience to the products? Not only price, but is that speaker dock a good one or crappy?

Apple doesnt throw around PERFECT everyday... Sounds like it could be more then just a discount.. Hell imagine introducing a NEW product on that day.. something considered perfect.. along with a discount.. They could move ALOT of units.. especially if they promise delivery before xmas. It wont be an Imac or Powermac.. and would be a consumer product.. I doubt it's a new machine.. Could it be some new software.. or an accessory they deem perfect? Too bad it wont be an flash ipod player.

I say this is really hard ;P I dont have a GODDAMN clue!

Maybe it will just be 10% off after all (lame.. good but lame ;P)

PS.. anyone notice that in EVERY mag latley.. Apple is getting Kudos supream.. for no viruses.. easy to use... and AWSOME customer service. Complaints a plenty though about the cost ;P Even consumer reports recommended them if you didnt mind the software issues! This would be the perfect way to boost EOY (not FY though) profits!

I don't know if a tiger pers to match the "perfect" .... but I don't think apple would throw the "tiger release" on november 27th. They don't need to flood the stores with people buying an operating system when they need people buying their hardware.

the Apple Aus page did have this link on the front...

No, Apple doesn't let you combine discounts. Sorry.

I don't think that's strictly true. For example, here's a quote from the T&Cs to an e-voucher on the online Apple Store:

"Cannot be combined with any other electronic discounts but may be used in conjunction with any other offer available on the AppleStore"

So it may be used in conjunction with any other offer, as long as it's not another e-voucher. So I can combine this with edu discount, as I have done in the past. Therefore there's every chance that if they're knocking 10% off store-wide you can stack the edu discount on top.

Aren't you snarky. Well, yes I am aware that the G5 will probably come out in jan, but I didn't really have the time to wait since my imac G3 kicked it a couple weeks ago. A March shipment of a rev. A G5 would have done me no good.

Take a closer look at that graphic: on the green background you can see an Airport Express, an iTrip, a set of JBL On Stage speakers, an iPod, a JBL Creature speaker, a digital camera and a 12'' PowerBook... What does it look like? For me, it seems they will be having a lot of stuff on sale (of course, I'm not thinking that those depicted items are the only ones on sale... ), if not *everything*... And that's great, really...

Too bad we won't be able to benefit from it (btw, is this a worldwide sale, including other online Apple Stores??), because we don't have a proper online Apple Store here in Portugal - it's an "emulation" based on the official store from Apple Spain (a very clumsy translation, actually), provided by the Apple's representant, which is an incompetent IMC whith poor customer support  Apple, PLEASE, oh PLEASE, make "Apple Portugal" a reality!! I'm still very surprised they managed to launch iTMS here, and I just haven't registered yet because I don't have a credit card ;) </rant>

I was in the Apple Store in Detroit today and I asked a bunch of different employees RE: Friday, and they said they couldnt tell me....

In which I replied ,. "probally 10% or something" and 2/4 employees said, their is a chance its not even a cost savings... so Maybe, its some type of freebie or something.. 10% coo too
20% would be smooth

Here's the best info I've received on this sale. The sales guy I spoke with recommended I come back to purchase the unit on Friday due to the sale. Now, I can't be sure he really knew what was going on or what would be on sale but the implication is that the IMac would be a better deal on Friday...so here's hoping!

Special day of shopping, looks like the UK online store is not included, I can'tfind this add on the UK site anyway........Darn it.....Come on Apple UK, stop oohh and aaah over your nice new store, it's just too far to drive for me, 4 hours if I'm lucky, so get working allready, we need more Apple coverage in the UK,both in retail outlets as in media, where are the iPod adds on TV for example, on CNN they are almost around he clock, I do not even remember seeing one in the UK..... Let's get Apple and the Mac of the ground here in UK and europe, the time is there to start the assault on the MS dominance here! Let the iPod be your guide!

Hi guys,

Season's Greetings from Mumbai, India. I'm Yogesh and I'm planning to buy a mac portable at that much hyped "sale" on the 26th. My sis who is in the US will buy it for me.

I need some advice. Should I buy an ibook or a 12" powerbook? I'm going to use the notebook for normal stuff, surfing the net, creating pdfs, docs etc.

I ask coz I personally like the powerbook's looks. But does it make sense spending the extra moolah at this point? The ibook and powerbook specs are more or less the same right now, right??

I cant wait until Jan 10 (for the new powerbooks) coz my sister's coming back to India on Dec 25.

My budget is USD 2,000. I'm thinking of buying the 12" ibook, with 768mb ram and 60GB HDD + a 20GB ipod. What dya guys think? Smart move?? Is this the perfect machine for me??? I dont want be stuck with a painfully slow machine.

Apple is virtually non-existent in India and their resellers are just out to make a quick buck. Your advice is much appreciated!

Cheers,
Yogesh

If you’re brave enough to shop today, you deserve a break. A price break. So today only — Friday, November 26 — discover big savings on a collection of our favorite gifts: the gorgeous iMac G5, our complete iPod selection, speakers, accessories, software and more.

Ok, sorry everybody.

It doesn't seem like the sale is online -- it must be in-store only.

Here's the teaser link, which doesn't at all imply that the sale is in-store only. However, a look around the site shows everything at regular prices.

It won't be the 26th here in CA for another 15 minutes, so maybe we should wait just a wee bit more? ;)
I'm not seeing any discounts either...hmm, me = confused

the discounts are there only on the stuff in that holiday gift section, add the stuff to your cart and it shows the promo....around 10% but can't be used with edu discount

So far I see $101 off on all iMac G5s, $21 off on all iPods and the AirPort Express for $98 (which is a good deal). And the deals are not good in combination with the EDU discounts.

Update 1: I also see .Mac for $68.95 as well.

Unless they are still rolling out the sale, that seems to be about it. It's odd that all iMac G5s and iPods have the exact same discount ($101 and $21 respectively) whether you're getting the least expensive or most expensive models. It's also difficult to find what's on sale without doing a lot of searching because most of the items on the holiday lists are not on sale.

Update 2: Ok, they are still rolling it out because now they have a full list of all items on sale under the new updated Holiday 2004 gift lists (Mac Gift List and iPod Gift List). Make sure to clear your browser cache if the new updated gift lists don't show up at first.

For the iPod mini it's an 8.4% savings (21/249) and for the 20GB iPod it's a 7% savings (21/299). So it's less than the rumored 10%, but still nice.

Yes, and they also gloat about the "over $20 off!" iPod Photo. It's $21 off. :p

Silly, but companies do it anyway. At least it's not one of those "now on sale -- under $100!!!" things, where the item is priced at $99.99.

Hi,

If you go to CompUSA, today you can grab an iBook for reg price ($999) and get 512MB RAM for $59.99 after MIR, PLUS no interest financing until 2006 on the CompUSA credit card (18 months not bad).

If you have the edu discount, you can still jump online and get accessories with the edu discount such as Apple care, .Mac and so on.

Just my 2 cents.

The AirPort Express is one of the things on my wanted list...and today would be a GREAT day to buy one...

The other stuff on sale doesn't interest me (or I've already got it).

They are pretty low price drops, but if I was at the store I would be happy to pay $100 less on an iMac. Thats $100 you can use to buy RAM or something else.

I've always loved the way they marketed their goods, but this sale made the Apple store look like www.gap.com. They are loosing some of their personality.

Well, the deal was good enough for me to get the following for the wife and me:

iMac G5/17" 1.8 GHz/Superdrive/Airport Extreme -- currently only 256MB of RAM, but that will change after the holidays.

Yeehaw!

yeah that airport express deal was probably the biggest bargain...

$98 instead of $129

How do you say “send me my iPod’s” in Chinese?

I took advantage of the Thanksgiving sale and purchased three iPod mini’s online. Two are Christmas gifts and one is a birthday gift for Dec 6th. But according to my order status, it says that they’re still in SHANGHAI, CH.

What the hell are they doing in China?

They're in China because that's where Apple's iPod factory is located.

me too although i'm too poor right now.

i noticed that the student discounts are much better for ipods though, at least the 40 gig. it knocks off about $40 or so. not bad.
