Fifth replacement iMac perfect !

Finally!

After 4 replacement base 21.5 iMacs the fifth one so far appears to have no yellow tinge, no annoying dog whistle and no dead pixels.

I can hear the LED coils right up close when you change brightness but I'm happy.

Fingers crossed it should be good.

Wow, 5 replacements... I admire your patience man! I love Apple products but such stories really scare me! I just ordered a refurb, hope I won't be going through 5 replacements like you!

Your lucky. I just went through five and am going to need a sixth.

My screen has about 22 dead or stuck pixels, probably more but I stopped counting at 22.

The right side of my screen looked like someone took a leak inside of the LCD panel.

One more and i will just give up. Get a lenovo or a HP.

Yeah, me too. Sittin' on the fence on this one. Ready to get a 21.5" i5 but just haven't got the guts to pull the trigger yet. It seems that we may have a better chance of getting a good one if it's BTO. Should have included that in the poll.

a lot of these people are OCD/crazy or both and don't realize that technologies like IPS bleed since they are not perfect. so they go back and replace their computers. i know someone who just bought a 47" LED LCD TV that has an IPS panel. it's very nice but you can see the LED go crazy sometimes. that's limitations of current tech

Everything was packaged perfectly but the weird thing is when it came time to do the software upgrade all but a small portion of 10.6.4 was already installed.

It's like the upgrader skipped to the last bit of 10.6.4 and it was all upgraded.

Maybe they took it offline and checked knowing I was going to be a demanding customer. Maybe not?

It even has a quiet Seagate HDD. Sigh of relief...lets hope it stays this way!

So all the people on here are crazy, and there is nothing wrong with their computers? Yeah that makes perfect sense.:rolleyes:

I by no means expect a perfect computer.

1st:Refurb. Chipped glass in the front of the screen from cord being wrapped around base. Prongs banged against glass.

2nd: Yellow screen. Apple technician pointed it out,not me. I took it in to have the hard drive checked. Sent me another one on the spot.

3rd. Shipped refurb imac was shipped with one side of the box crushed. The foam piece was actually almost cracked in half from the impact. That is how hard the computer hit. The screen was broken. It was a complete joke. Told them that no more refurbs for me. New imacs came out

4th. Screen has LCD leak. Thought it was dust or something. But next day spot was three times the size and was not dull but dark black. Went to the Apple store, said was LCD leak gave me a new one.

5Th. Current imac has bad yellow screen. Counted 22 stuck and dead pixels. There is way more but stopped counting after 22.

It has nothing to do with limitations of current tech in most cases. It has to do with quality control on Apple's part. I don't think most people want to take and exchange their computers and go though the hassle of wiping the HD and zeroing it out for no reason. Sure some may have OCD and that is the case sometimes. For the most part I don't think that is the majority of people on this site.

I share your frustration. I've had terrible issues with all sorts of Macs over the years.

White MacBook: (2006, C2D, 2GHz): cracked plastic pieces (hence the name 'CrackBook). One USB port failed (that's when I sold it).

First generation MacBook Air (I've had two): broken hinges, CPU whine, overheating.

Unibody MacBook (I had to return three or four): misaligned keys, constant fan, one of them had high-pitched noise right from the beginning.

15" unibody MacBook Pro 2.53GHz: piss poor battery life, faulty graphics. (Otherwise a nice machine, it's a shame that it cost a fortune).

13" MacBook Pro: one day, first new machine to produce constant beach ball. CPU whine and the fan is regularly above 6000rpm. '7 hours' battery lasts less than three.



I recently took in two old eMacs from my garage. One of them keeps having the beach ball as soon as I start any web browsing. Both are fairly noisy, but actually, I'm OK with it as they aren't worth anything. But to have the above problems after you spent a lot of money for those Macs - it's disappointing.


I hear similar stories from people, but contrast us with some posters who keep bashing non-Apple computers as crap. Sometimes, I wish that my expensive Apple hardware was paid by them or from their kidney.

My imac shipped yesterday, and I should be receiving it next week by Wednesday. I waited an extra 4 days just because I wanted a numeric keyboard. If an unfortunate event happens and I get a bad one, I am going to have to call Apple Care and use my polemic skills at figure out why the *bleep* did I wait an extra 4 days just because I wanted a numeric keyboard instead of a non numeric keyboard. Then see if I can get a replacement and expedited shipping for free. I didn't think it would take that extra 2 days to ship my imac just because I wanted a numeric keyboard, let alone why it took 2 days itself rather than within 24 hours to ship with a regular non numeric...

Actually, there have always been problems with the 21.5 model, and, from the looks of things here, the new 21.5 models are fairing worse than the 2009 model. That said, the majority of them are still probably fine.

This happens with ALL shipping companies. I do packing and shipping at an art dealer and we use every major company in the US. We get crushed tubes on a daily basis. There isn't anything Apple can do to fix that problem. It doesn't matter anyway as you are covered if a package arrives like that.
