Hey everyone!

I have a mid-2008 white macbook 13". With this macbook, we leave it on all the time (24/7, except in rainstorms) and leave it shut connected to a 22 inch monitor.

3 days ago, I picked it up, and the bottom of the notebook started to fall out! I'm going crazy, and turn it upside down to notice that part of the battery is hanging out. It was only hanging by the two clips that you open and close with a coin.

Now here's what it looks like. The plastic that surrounds the battery is actually peeling off. Any suggestions on this?

Thanks for the help guys!

Make an appointment at the genius bar, and they should swap it out for you.

I had this happen to me, and even though my MBP was not under warranty, they didn't even blink at replacing it on the spot. Be sure to take in the computer and the battery.

Until I was able to get to a store and have mine replaced I used my computer without the battery. I didn't want to run the risk of it expanding and effecting other components.

Wait the computer will work, without a battery? For instance, I am running off of my son's 2007 black macbook battery. The computer in the original post is always connected to the charger.

Yes it will work without a battery. Just don't let the charging cable fall out ;)

Mine is safely perched on an mStand and plugged into a UPS. Yes, as TheBritishBloke said, guard the power cord!

I live an hour away from an Apple store, so I ran mine without a battery for almost 2 weeks before I got a replacement.

Had the same thing. Just Apple Resellers here, and mine was already out of warranty. Called Apple, got advice to replace it to prevent problems with leaking or what not. But it's supposed to be normal when those things get old. Bought one in Apple Store, should arrive soon.

Running it batteryless does decrease the processing power, I hear. Something to do with, if the magsafe pops out accidentally, it doesn't totally lose power in the middle of it running full pelt, which can be dangerous? (Anybody, correct me if I'm wrong.)

I believe you are correct. Yes. It's supposed to reduce the processing speed so that intensive current requirements don't happen when the battery is not available. And, yeah, don't yank the cord when there's no battery. Very bad.

This battery swelling issue haooened to both my MacBooks. Took it in to the Apple sta=ore and they gladly gave me knew ones. Both are under 3 years old.
