Learning graphics?

Hi, I am very interested to learn how to make nice graphics like the little nice buttons for website, icons, wallpapers. I especially love the 'aqua' effect which I have no idea how its done.

I was hoping if someone could enlighten how do I go about learn such stuff? Which program do I use? It appears that photoshop is the way to go but from the books it seems to be purely for editing photos and not drawing stuff. Any recommended books? I do understand that this requires talent, but I really wish to have a go at it.

photoshop is great! 🙂 couldn't live without it.

for idea's/tutorials/ect search google for "photoshop tutorials" you will find heaps, im sure their must be a few aqua ones.

you also might be interested in using illustrator.

so I could draw in photoshop as well? I was hoping to start with one program first and progress to another after I am efficient with one.

Photoshop has drawing tools of a sort.
It's complexity & depth also means that you'll be able to virtually do anything you want on it.

If you're a student, get an edu Creative Suite & that will keep you busy for years...

Illustrator + Photoshop is a definite must. I would say to learn Photoshop first, then venture on into the vector world of Illustrator.

Found what I need!

Hey guys! Thanks! Seems like photoshop is what I want for now.

I found video tutorials on how to do the brushed metal and aqua effect here http://www.mactutorials.net/ going to try it soon on the demo version of photoshop, and see how it goes. If it goes well i'll get it and play ! 😀 so fun!




ps: I feel like I'm getting too geeky..... I miss my PB every night I need to part with it to go sleep..... weird right 😕
