Macbook early 2008 battery problems

Ok so my sister old macbook are having issues charging after being on standby in a long period and draining the battery fully. Ever since then, the battery won't charge at all.
Anyone that has any idea of what to do?

Batteries only last so long before they need to be replaced (like hard drives, they wear out after a while), but you could try calibrating it I guess (although if it's not charging that's probably not going to work either) Take a look here.
