View Full Version : I hope this isn't true (8GB DIMM issue)

Lloyd Chambers is reporting (http://macperformanceguide.com/index.html) that there is some uncertainty as to whether 8GB DIMMS are supported by the single-processor variants of the new 2010 Mac Pro. I certainly hope that this isn't true. While I'm currently comfortable with 16GB RAM, I'd rather use a three-DIMM configuration for optimal performance, and 12GB would be a little lean for that.

I'm going to keep my fingers crossed that this isn't true.

Just a case of "we haven't tested this unsupported feature yet".

2010 Mac Pro motherboard is exactly the same as the 2009. It should support 32GB of RAM on the single processor models and 64GB of RAM on the dual processor models.

That's my assumption, too. Obviously it needs to be tested and verified, but I'd be bummed if 16GB was a hard limit.

But I think I was wrong, I think the new dual processor models only have 6 RAM slots, instead of 8

EDIT: No, I just checked, I was right, they do have 8 slots.
