I recently acquired a Newton 130 with two battery backs, a charger for the Newton (not the original, but it works), a stylus for the Newton which, seeing as most eBay auctions don't include the stylus, well... it is important.

It is running the Newton OS 2.0. I also have the keyboard for it.
What now?

I have a wireless card as well as a wired ethernet card in the house-- can I use them? What software should I get for it?

I have a USB->PC serial adapter (the rectangular-ish kind, not the Mac circular kind) but that won't work... so, what now?

And it is fweakin awsome, I might add... :)

You could do what I did with it; use it for three days, throw it in a closet for four years, and sell it. ;)

There are gobs of newton links with software you can get for it. I use mine mainly for a calendar and to-do list. Turn on the agenda mode so that events and tasks are shown on the same page.

You can try newtsync to sync address book & ical with your newton - works ok, but you get lots of duplicates.

Yes, you can use Ethernet and wireless. There is a web browser and ftp client for it; possibly an email client too, I haven't looked.

I have about a lot of links for Newton stuff, here are some:
newtsync http://www.everchanging.com/newton/
FAQ http://www.splorp.com/newton/faq/
ethernet http://www.chuma.org/newton/ethernet/
newted http://www.newted.net/
this old newt http://www.thisoldnewt.net/index2.html
avi drissman http://www.drissman.com/avi/newton/
unna http://www.unna.org/unna/

The Newton is still the best PDA ever made.

I use mine mostly for eBooks. You can use Newton Press to make your own eBooks, which is very cool

I also have a basic flight simulator called Flight3D, nZone which is a Battle Zone clone, and then there's Newtendo :)

You also HAVE TO check out Newtonlust (http://dev.newtontalk.net/~martinw/Newtonlust/). Everytime I start to not use my Newton, I look through this page; it keeps me away from my Palm ;)

Also, why not join Newton Talk mailing list at www.newtontalk.net (http://www.newtontalk.net)? I'm on the list and there are a lot of interesting discussions going on.

Rememer: Keep the Green and Ink Different ;) :)
