I'm posting this thread in case anybody ever has the same problem as me and decides to search.
Symptoms: Most CDs and DVDs function perfectly and do not skip, occasionally, burning disks (CDs/DVDs) fails.
Some DVDs seem to have problems and do not mount. When they are put in the drive, it can be heard to spin up but after a few minutes spits the disk out.
Solution: Buy a DVD/CD drive cleaner.
I had highly doubted this as a solution but after 30 seconds of playing the 'cleaning' track the DVD that would not mount functioned perfectly.
