View Full Version : Building a external firewire drive

I'd like to get a 4 or 8 bay firewire enclosure (either 400 or 800) But I don't want to pay the, almost $200 on ebay for the 4 bays. These don't look too hard to build. I'm sure I could get most of the stuff i need at Micro Center but where would I get the case itself? And what else would I need to know to do this? And remember I own mac, I'm not used to getting my hands dirty!

You can buy empty 4-bay cases with power supplies and fans, then buy the Firewire bridge boards yourself.. however, I'm almost sure it will add up to more than $200, plus require labor on your part. $200 is not a bad price for a 4-bay case with everything included.
