Even though QuickTime has an utter inability to play the AVIs I download, it insists on attempting - and failing - every single time. How do I get MPlayer to be default?

Same question for JPGs, I don't PhotoShop to load up every time I want to open a JPG file that's I've modified using PS.

I believe my user text says Newbie 🙂
Thanks, I'll try that...

By the way, what the hell is wrong with the image preview icon. It freaks me out every time I use it... the eyes.

If you want quicktime to stop checking for software to play the avi files every time you preview one, you can install the stuff found here (make sure you get the stuff mentioned in the comments too! 🙂) and you'll be able to play DivX, XviD, 3ivx, and more in Quicktime.

Dammit! I'll never again be able to look at that icon without noticing the eyes. Thanks so much....

BTW, you can just click on the item to select it and then press ⌘I as a shortcut to Sun Baked's suggestion.
