Hi everyone
I have just ordered a new iBook and I am keen to start coding using PHP / mySQL (my previous experience is with ASP / SQL on PC).
Does anyone have a recommendation for an 'installer' that 'easily' sets up PHP / mySQL on OS X? I know there are a few for Windows, but hoping to find a good one for the Mac.
(I have googled it, but was looking for recommendations).
Many thanks for any help anyone can offer.
Cheers

Thanks for that.
Don't suppose you know of any 'all in one' solutions like those for Windows (they install both the PHP / mySQL into one directory)?
Cheers

Wow, things are different here... It's been a while I guess...
Anyway, I use Server Logistics (http://www.serverlogistics.com/) . Their MySQL installer even has a preference pane that can be installed in System Preferences.
I'm not sure if PHP can be installed without Apache, but if you you're doing PHP/MySQL web stuff, you'll probably want Apache anyway. Apache also has a System Preferences pane.

Hmmm, MAMP, this could be just what I am looking for. Installs into one directory.
Has anyone tried this package?

I am really new to the entire web creation/design scene and I am currently playing around with a site for my own learning. I am working currently on my PC desktop but I plan to purchase a Mac after Jan. announcments, whatever they may be.
I just use the mySQL database that is loaded in the DirectAdmin portion of my site through my provider, and I currently use GoLive (did that for Mac :) ) to publish the site along with some very VERY basic html coding.
Ques: Am I going to have any issues going to the Mac and still creating/updating the my site? (I will have GoLive on the Mac too, so no issues with format there at least)
I really just want to learn about things right now and potentially setup a photo gallery and a forum for my friends and family to view/use while I travel to Europe this spring.
Thank you for any input you can lend on this....I appreciate it.

the manp package won't help you when you need to upload your sites to servers.

unless you need php 5, i'd suggest using the php installation that's already bundled with os x. as for mysql, the installer from their website (http://www.mysql.com/) works fine if you read the instructions and comments users have left on the download page (you have to change some permissions once it's installed).
