View Full Version : Network Fonts without Panther Server?

As I understand it, it is possible to share network fonts in "Network/library/Fonts" to all users on the network. In OS X Server it supposedly pretty easy. You simply have to set up the right directory to shared using Workgroup Manager. Unfortunately, I do not have the server edition of Panther but would like to set something like this up anyway.

After a bit of Googling I have determined that this has something to do with NetInfo, Share Points and mounts. Where and how it all fits together so that it works properly, I don't know.

We have an eMac running 10.3.6 and it is in essence a file server. It has out Filemaker dbs on it and various files that need to accessed by our typesetters and and copyeditors. I would like to install all of the proper fonts that our typesetters require and share this directory.

Apparently NetInfo has to be turned on. I can do this in Directory Access. But how do I tell the computer which directory to share? Since Workgroup Manager is not available in the standard edition of OS X how do I go about this? Do I have to set up a "mount" in the NetInfo Manager? I only come to that idea because one site I saw seemed to give the impression that Share Points and mounts were the same thing but didn't elaborate. I'm not sure if that is correct though.

Any ideas?
