I have the GTX 285; is the 5770 any better or is the real upgrade the 5870? I haven't been keeping up with GPU developments since I got a Mac Pro.
I'm not going to upgrade for like 10% improvements. 50% more I'll go for it.
I don't really use the GPU except for the gaming occasionally.

This shows you the comparisons between gtx 285 and 5870 and some other cards.

But seriously you don't need to upgrade if you only do occasional gaming a gtx 285 is good for pretty regular gaming.

That GTX 285 will be just fine. No need to spend more money then you have to.
+1 for CUDA anyway.

285 is better than the 5770, 5870 is a lot better than the 285.

and if you are a heavy CS5 user, you most definitely would NOT want to go with the ATI cards (Adobe uses CUDA).

That's only partially correct.
Technically, the only CS5 app that actually uses CUDA is Premiere (and support is limited a handful of NVIDIA cards, the GTX 285 being the cheapest CUDA card that's actually supported). The rest of the CS5 apps use OpenGL for GPU acceleration and therefore modern ATI cards work fine, as do NVIDIA cards.
There are SOME plugins for After Effects that take advantage of CUDA.

Fair enough… looks like I'll wait for the next Nvidia update then.

Based on those FPS, it's nearly close to double that of the GTX 285. 1920x1440 gets 40 FPS on Enthusiast (no AA) in Crysis Warhead, it should do well at 2560x1440 or 2560x1600!
