Hi All
Can someone tell me what the fastest option is (excluding SSD's) for an external Hard drive for my 2008 machine? I'm thinking about as a drive for booting from into OS X and running Applications from since I may be in a situation where I need to work away from home but on a virtually identical machine.

Is there much better than a 7200 RPM external hooked up via Firewire? Would fitting a SATA card make a big difference?

No idea about this stuff!

Thanks in advance.

well the fastest way would be esata sans digital makes a unit that has its own power and a usb2 and a esata connection. drop in a caviar black and it would be the fastest low cost solution. here are some links

now you need an esata jack for the mp's

this is just an extension cord so you need the right mp for it to work

Great info, thanks a lot!

In the UK so had to track down the bits here but seems fairly straight forward.

Thanks again.
