I couldn't stop reading it...if it wasn't so crazy I would just dismiss it as a fake. That really is incredible. And shocking.

This is ****ing disgusting. I'm wondering what stopped the guy frommoving in with someone else?
I'm sure if people knew he was in this dire situation, they would be more than willing to help.

Sort of have to agree on that... can't help thinking the guy writing the story is quite a jerk too, not completely crazy like Jed - just a jerk letting things go that far before reacting. And not giving a **** about the (poor) lunatic getting worse and worse next door, as long as he's fine himself!?

I had a sweet Scotsman working for me for years as a painter - wouldn't hurt a fly, and wrote poetry, too - and he began to go similarly loopy. In the end, I had to get him "sectioned" under the Mental Health Act (i.e. involuntarily hospitalized) before things got out of hand. You can't just let it ride. Incidentally, it was diagnosed as "cannabis psychosis". He's OK now, but it could have got much, much worse.

:D once I shared a room, the single problem was to have the man singing things from his religion 3 times a day, it took me less than a week to move, and then there was misunderstanding with the management of the place and they moved me with a girl named max, I couldn't believe my eyes but it was her last day there and in the city :o ...

And you had somebody institutionalized for it's use. :D

Drugs do tend to make people live in conditions they never would under other cicumstances.
Though it's odd the people next door didn't complain either, since apartments hardly ever stop all noises and smells from going through the walls and floors.

If they are of college age, it would seem about the right time for him to show signs of schizophrenia. When his roomate started to act a little off he should have contacted someone, even the guys father if need be.

Re: Schizophrenia.
Very good point mate. I was considering that it was a psychotic break of some sort.
Also, I am still curious what was under all the paper on the floor. It said it was "lumpy" IIRC, but never elaborated. The mind reels.

Hmm I think I'll send this to my roommate... his therory is that all he has to do is be better than my previous roommates and he's fine. I think he should live with Martin Random even at his worst he'd bee 1000 times better than Jed.

Believe me, as a 35-year smoker myself, I thought long and hard about it. He was definitely schizophrenic. Some people just can't take it.

I have to wonder if the whole story is a fake.
How the hell do you run a motorcycle indoors for 15 minutes a day, with the windows closed, and not begin to choke (if not actually die) from carbon monoxide poisoning?
If it's not a fake, then the roommate is a psycho, and this guy is a major wuss for putting up with it this long.

I did wonder at that. He says it was only once, though. And it probably seemed like 15 minutes, even if it was only 2...

No argument there. Both parties obviously have pretty serious issues.

I didn't think it was 15min a day, I thought it was once for 15min. I guess I better reread. And I definately think its schizophrenia. It usually manifests itself in the early 20's I believe.
Edit: After a reread of the Paragraph in question, I think it was a one-time affair.

I would have confronted him and/or moved. That's not right and no one should have to deal with that. He's a bit messed up himself for letting it go as long as it did.

Smells like tripe. I mean, come on, what reasonable person would put up with half the stuff in that account, long enough for it to happen?
A remote cotrolled car, for crying out loud? :o
I don't really care if it's fact or fiction. It was an interesting (if disgusting) read.
And the remote-control car could work, but doesn't seem like the optimal solution: if the batteries died in the car, he'd be screwed. I mean, he has to leave it on for it to work, so it's sitting there, on, the whole time he's gone. Gotta be some drain there due to the receiver. Plus, I suppose, he backs it up to "locK' the door, but can't see the car as he does so (windows are papered over).

tis messed up indeed.. I can see why the guy went off into his own world. Who wants to deal with others quirks and problems. And its not like theyre married or family or something so where is the incentive to help?
a horrible situation, but a good read... thats my two cents.

exactly, and the hassle of moving out, and having to deal with that, people are lazy and dont want to deal with that stuff, but i wouldnt put up with it to be honest, i would have kicked his ass, figuratively, hell if i knew the guy was afraid of me all i would have to do is some intimidation to get him to shape the heck up, but this guy was just as passive agressive as Jed
i think thats were the problems really came from, they wouldnt confront one another, and that led to this crazy crap, i mean come on, tell him and give him the invoices, just dont slip it under his door, ect

I had a similar thought. Maybe he was able to plug the car in? He doesn't mention this so it does seem odd.

That really is disguisting. And the worst part: the spiders. I don't do spiders. I would never get close to anyone with 6 tarantulas.

I will have to say that the story is not true simply because if the filthy roommate Jed were to actually be living in those conditions he would have most certainly become sick and died from the bacteria that would culture in the waste.
