Basicly I've never owned a mac myself but have been working on them in the studio for the past two years. I know have money to create my own editing suite and am at a loss of how to configure a new mac to run fast and smooth. Any and all help is great.

My Budget: 3,000 to 5,000 possibly Including monitors

I've been looking at the Mac pros quad or 8 core. Will this alone be enough to edit 1080p hd photoage in h.264 or trans coded to apple pro ress with final cut studio?

All open to setting up a raid 0 stiped system to increase perfomance but don't fully understand which drives are better.

Basicly I just want a computer with fast load and redner times and can play back clips from my 5d mk11 in real time.

I realy know very little about computer internals so I have no clue if a single quad core or 8 core is enough or do i need to install additional drives and add stuff??

Thanks Again

Mackenzie

my take is:

4 core system w/ max ghz cpu's
4870 or 5770 video card
at least 8 gigs ram
matrox compression card (does it work in reverse?)
hard ware raid card with 2 1TB WD blacks in raid 0 for scratch
1 128GB SSD (or smaller if you like)
2TB storage

sounds like you're doing this for the hobbie, so that's why I suggest 4core

That's pretty much the setup I've narrowed in on. Just waiting for info on the two video cards. i.e. does the 5870 bring anything good to the table which would make the higher power bills justified. ???

Does anyone actually try looking for an answer before asking a question? Even when it's one line away and posted a couple hours before???

This thread, meet that thread:
