Yeah, but Preview.app is the only one I wanted. The others were things like Stattoo, Konfabulator etc which I didnt want.

No one should be forced to re-install all of Mac OS X because of problems with a small app like Preview. ;)You are not actually reinstalling the OS. You are reinstalling a few missing files. To me it makes a lot more sense just to stick the CD in and let things go than to download a utility, stick the CD in and search file by file for what you want, and then extract it.

people who have lost Preview are you sure it wasnt just dragged off your Dock? check the Applications stack on the right of the Dock, open Finder and click on Applications or search for in Spotlight.

Surely all the apps that came with OS X are on your start up disks that came with your Mac? I remember when I accidentally deleted Safari and found I was without a web browser, I popped my OS X boot disc into the drive and navigated to the apps on it and reinstalled Safari from it.

If you have Mac OS X 10.6.4, then there is a download link some posts above you.
If you have another Mac OS X version, please state it.

Or if you have your grey Restore DVDs, use the first one (System) and Pacifist to extract the applications you want.

And btw, it is not really a good idea to post your email address that publicly, you might get more SPAM due to that. Use the http://forums.macrumors.com/images/buttons/edit.gif button to remove it, as this thread is sufficient enough to get help.

And again, please state the exact/specific Mac OS X version you use, to find out, go to the Menu Bar, click the :apple: and select About This Mac.

Are you on Mac OS X 10.5.8? Or another version? Btw, the application is called "Preview", Apple was kind enough to not put an "i" in front of it. And what is Toaster? Do you mean Roxio Toast Titanium? If so, surely you must still have the installation disk from when you bought it or at least have a receipt from Roxio, to maybe get a replacement?

Anyway, the it ay be best to remove the email address from your post, before spambots get it and spam you.

As you might not have noticed, the poster you quoted posted in 2004 and that was a time of a very different Preview and Mac OS X version (Panther - 10.3).
Do you have the latest Mac OS X version? Check via :apple: > About This Mac.
And it may be best to remove your email address from your post, as it can lead to spambots catching it.

I have been having a different, odd problem with Preview. It works fine with PDF files, and it used to be fine with images too, but one day it just started showing ALL images (JPG, PNG, TIFF...) as only a blank grey screen!

I followed the links above to delete and reinstall the app from a new downloaded version. Didn't fix the problem. Maybe I need to delete the prefs and other associated files too and rebuild them, but not sure how to do that...

any ideas what might be going on...and how to solve it?

Os X 10.6.5 on a dell mini 10V...so no cd drawer. I do my Os X updates from downloaded versions (combined updates) at apple.

You should be able to use the Preview version for Mac OS X 10.6.6, as both Previews are the same (Preview 5.0.1).
