So I'm selling my roommmate my iPod classic which I never use thanks to my iPhone. In return he said he'll buy me a shuffle. I really don't like the design of the 3rd gen since I use my own headphones when at the gym. Is there any way to change the design of the 3rd gen to make it a 2nd gen (my buddy said you could) or should I wait and see if Apple will make the new release like the 2nd gen design again (which I doubt)? If not 2nd gen off ebay I'm guessing?

Nope. Unfortunately they are arbitrary with the headphones. You should get a 2nd Gen Shuffle, my personal favorite iPod ever. I saw them at Walmart a month ago for like $15. They're super-cheap now.

15$ new!? Awesome... but I shouldn't tell my roommate that. He's being really cheap haha.

Shuffle... it's so mini, but I don't like it because of non-screen. It's a bit inconvenient.

I suppose, but it makes it less easy to break. It's also simpler for less tech-savvy people to use, as well.

For 15$ I'd get a few of them and not worry about iPods for the next 20 years. :)

But since you don't pay, you could wait for what Apple is going to offer in mid September. If you don't like it, you'll still be able to pick up a 2G shuffle somewhere.

That's what I'm planning to do. I'm letting him use it for the time being. I'll just wait a couple weeks for the new shuffle to come out and say "Chris.... you remember that deal we made last month. Gimme this one dude."

Yeah this doesn't bother me. I have an iPhone to use if I really wanted. I just want a shuffle to load up with electronic music for working out... actually just lifting. Cardio can suck a big one.

A shuffle 2G is as good as it gets for that. The clip means you can move it anywhere on your shirt or pants so the cord won't be in the way of the bar. I couldn't care less about a display.

Thanks. I'll see if I can get a 2G off ebay or something.
