mini DP to HDMI - 5.1?

I have the early 2010 Macbook Pro that transfers audio via a mini DP --> HDMI cable. What I don't know is if it supports multi channel audio like 5.1 or 7.1 and if so what exactly does it support? (DTS-HD, DTS, TRUE HD, etc...)

It won't do the HD audio codecs but I'm pretty sure all the legacy stuff is catered for.
