I use a 2011 Mac Mini to record from an EyeTV 500 device which is only OTA, as well as a DVB S2 satellite receiver that connects over USB. An older 2009 Mac Mini records from an EyeTV 250+ which is set to record from QAM cable. All of my other Macs are set to record from a two channel ethernet device called HD Homerun which can be set to either QAM Cable or OTA. I could record four different programs on the 2011 Mac Mini: the 500, the DVB, two QAM from HDHomerun, but the EyeTV software gets confused with channel numbers among the different devices, so use on separate Macs. I have a MacPro 2010 and a MacBook Pro 2009 that will all record and view the HD Homerun. You could also buy two HD Homerun units, devoting one to QAM and one to OTA.

This Thursday I will be recording the NCAA BB at 7pm on OTA (500), PBS Newshour at 7 on DVB, Nightly Business at 7 pm on QAM (250+). I still have two channels of QAM over HDHomerun that I can use to view or record.

      Hi,

I'm really interested in doing something similar with OTA channels and was curious what hardware you are using with EyeTV that lets you record five programs simultaneously on a MacMini? Before buying a MacMini, can I test out the EyeTV recording setup on my MBP? Most of what me and my wife is on the major networks anyways and this would be a great way to get rid of cable TV if it worked. Here's hoping AppleTV 3 also provides us with more options.

I appreciate any more details you can provide!

      Thanks

      Matt

"I don't pay for TV. I get 50+ channels from OTA digital in 1080i and DD. Also 500 channels of FTA DVB S2 in 1080i and DD. I never watch TV live, always recorded on EyeTV through a MacMini and a Samsung TV used solely as a monitor. I can record up to five programs simultaneously. I do pay for Netflix BR and stream."
