We coud do a chat or audio chat with iChat....have you ever used iChat. my buddy name on iChat is flyfish29 or flyfish29@mac.com I can't remember if you have to put the @mac.com or not. I am on right now if you want. I could talk you through the basic set up of what you likely need to do.

It sounds as if you just need to dig out that older external drive, how big is the older drive? IF you dont know you would simply connect it and do the same for that drive icon as you just did for your start up drive withe the whole "get info" stuff. I will be on for a few more minutes or else later this afternoon I will be on.

ok I'm really not very educate in terms of computer, and I appreciate you taking the time to help me !
Is that maybe a easier/faster way to communicate ( messenger?) ?

when I click on my macintosh HD it says 2.07 available only., and the time machine is "locked" not running. I have an older external drive that I used for TM, but then it said it had no more memory left . Should I take it somewhere, maybe the apple store ? I don't think they will help me since my apple care is gone.

So I just saw this message AFTER posting my last reply. So I imagine your drive is slow because of the startup drive being so full. (it may also be slow because of the time machine using that external drive you pictures are on.) We need to determine a few things first- If you click once on the startup drive icon on your desktop and then go to the file menu and select "get info" you will find out how full it is. It will show you capacity and available GB. Can you find that out and let me know what the numbers say?

I also think that if you can afford the smaller external drive I rec. in my post that will solve your issues and also give you the security of a full backup drive. Apple recs not having any other files on the same parition of a time machine backup which I am sure is also contributing to your slow external drive. So I would not delete any pictures right now either.

I saw your reply on my post about the 2T iomega external hard drive, I deleted only some pictures from the computer, transfered all my files to the External drive ( I use for time machine and a folder for the files, without partition. Now that I transfered everything the External drive is extremely slow, takes me hours to navigate through the files. Is it normal do be that slow ? DO I need to format it differently ? I'm afraid to erase the picture form my computer now... is it slow because my computer still full ?

      thanks !
