Thread subscriptions are used to track new posts in threads of interest. You can identify them using your User Control Panel, with email notifications, in the New Posts display, and/or in the Forum Spy.

Forum subscriptions let you track new and updated threads in particular forums.

Both can be used to notify you of new activity by email or to show you a record of recent activity when you ask for it.

How to subscribe to a thread

While viewing a thread, choose Subscribe to this Thread from the Thread Tools drop-down menu. Specify whether and how you are to be notified when new posts are made in that thread:
  • No Email Notification. You won't get email when there are new posts in the thread.
  • Instant notification by email. The forum system will email you a link to new posts in the thread. If more than one new post is made before you visit MacRumors, you will get only one email.
  • Daily updates by email. The forum system will email you a link to new posts in the thread at most once per day.
  • Weekly updates by email. The forum system will email you a link to new posts in the thread at most once per week.
If you choose email notification, the email will include a link to the first post you haven't previously seen (as far as the forum system can tell).

No matter which choice you make, you can use your User Control Panel to check for new posts in your subscribed threads.

How to automatically subscribe to threads

Go to your User Options and set your Default Thread Subscription Mode to automatically subscribe you to any thread in which you post. It will apply from then on.

How to turn off automatic subscriptions

Go to your User Options and change Default Thread Subscription Mode to Do not subscribe.

This will apply from then on so you still have to remove any previous subscriptions that you no longer want.

How to remove one thread subscription

Two methods:

1. While viewing the thread, pick Unsubscribe from this Thread from the Thread Tools menu.

2. When you get an email notification from your thread subscription, click the unsubscribe link at the bottom.

How to remove many thread subscriptions

Go to your Thread Subscriptions page. Check one or more checkboxes and choose Delete Subscription from the drop-down menu at the bottom of the page.

How to change the method of notification for one or more thread subscriptions

Go to your Thread Subscriptions page. Check one or more checkboxes and choose a new notification method from the drop-down menu at the bottom of the page.

How to subscribe to a forum

While viewing a forum (not a thread in the forum), choose Subscribe to this Forum from the Forum Tools drop-down menu. Specify whether and how you are to be notified when threads are started or updated in that forum:
  • No Email Notification. You won't get email when there are new or updated threads in the forum.
  • Daily updates by email. The forum system will email you a link to new or updated threads in the forum at most once per day.
  • Weekly updates by email. The forum system will email you a link to new or updated threads in the forum at most once per week.
When you subscribe to a forum, you don't have a choice for instant notification by email because it would be too big a burden on the servers and generate too much email.

No matter which choice you make, you can check your User Control Panel to check for new or updated threads in your subscribed forums.

How to unsubscribe from a forum
Three methods:

1. While viewing the forum, pick Unsubscribe from this Forum from the Forum Tools menu.

2. When you get an email notification from your forum subscription, click the unsubscribe link at the bottom.

3. Go to your User Control Panel and click "Unsubscribe from this Forum" under that forum title.
