Need to restore pre-owned Macbook to factory settings

I purchased a pre-owned macbook that did NOT come with system disks. I purchased a Snow Leopard disk from Apple and reinstalled the OS. However, much to my dismay it did NOT restore the system. As far as I can tell it didn't do anything... How do I restore the system to factory settings to remove all of the old owner's files and data, etc??? Thanks!

you need to do a clean install of Snow leopard and format the hard drive with a new partition... here is a video
