Cutting Virgin SIM to micro SIM

I'm on Virgin Mobile (UK) and so I need to cut down my SIM to a micro SIM. No problem, I bought a SIM cutter.

However cutting it will mean cutting through part of the gold chip, will that break the SIM?

Yes, DO NOT cut through the gold chip under any circumstances.

You'll be fine with the outer parts. I've done it with a few sims no problems.

Reading is mandatory, he/she already bought a sim-cutter.

OP, as long as the cutter doesn't damage any part of the gold area, you're solid. If it looks like it will, you may have an older SIM, ask for a replacement via carrier.

I went for it and put the SIM in the cutter and although it cut through some of the gold section it's working fine.

Tried to cut one tonight for a friends Iphone and it never worked. Used my own as a template guess it won't matter some pen ink got round the edges?

Seems a bigger job than I thought so they now need to go and get a proper micro sim.

I've done it this way with two sims. Job done, 30 seconds.

I cut my SIM card using the micro-sim cutter. Worked perfect. Took 1 second.
