How to turn off update notification?

My iPhone is showing that I need to update it by displaying the number 1 in a red circle on my "Settings" icon.

Is there a way to turn this off / disable it?

Yeah you update your iPhone and it'll go away.

Its a phone update, not an app update.

Here is the solution.

Yes, there is absolutely a solution. I had the same annoying problem and I've read many post that stated that even after the update the badge still remained. But I found a solution through Cydia. Search for and install noOTA badge in Cydia. Complete instructions here.

If you don't want to jb and don't want to upgrade to 5.1 then you're stuck with the notification badge.

Probably not a good suggestion, but you could move it to another page that you don't see as often so it doesn't bother you as much.
