All of a sudden on Saturday, the screen on my wife's 4s went green. I would attach a picture of the problem, but the screenshots look normal.

The only time it does not look green is when the screen brightness is turned all the way down to the lowest possible level.

Trying to figure out if this is a software or a hardware issue and what I can do to possibly troubleshoot before taking it to an Apple store.

I would suggest a factory restore first, but if that doesn't do anything I would assume that it's a fault in the LCD connector which would constitute as a manufacturer's defect that the Apple store would have to handle.

Most likely your screen was zoomed in on the battery you unplugs it and get a super up close of your screen saver take a picture it should show a normal shot of the screen
