I'm interested in using my late 2009 21" iMac as an external monitor for my late 2010 Macbook air. Both use Mini Display Ports (not Thunderbolt).

Is this even possible? I'd assume I need a male to male mini display port cable.

Thanks for your help.

The target display mode is only possible on 27" iMacs (I am 99% sure)

I agree; I believe that's only possible on the later 27" models.

Try ScreenRecycler; it's a software method of doing that. Works pretty well if you have a fast connection.
