I'm trying to figure out the most efficient way to do the following, any help would be appreciated:

1. Convert VHS to iTunes library and store on an external hard drive or time capsule
2. Play movie collection on TV without having my computer on or iTunes running

Let me know what you guys think, thanks in advance!

I store movies on a usb HD connected to a TC. But the mac & iTunes have to be running.

Are the VHS tapes home movies? If they are hollywood type movies, I wouldn't bother converting them because of poor quality. If they are home movies, I would have them transferred by a service because the expense and time of conversion is probably not worth the investment.
