I've seen the post on instructables (and i think that's awesome).

link here:

if i go with a super-thin lexan instead of the 6mm or 3mm the author is suggesting, do you think i'll have a superior result?

would i have to vaseline the back-side of the lexan to stop the lexan from sticking to the original monitor?

Has anyone else here done something similar?

well i gave this a shot with clamps and a heat gun and the desired effect was...

pretty crappy.

i'll try again w/ a different product.

well, my screen finally showed up:

8" at 4:3 is hilarious!

this is 800x600, but allegedly does something to fake 1024x768.

should be fun!

mobo etc still to be decided. might even just buy a mac mini.. but building is more fun, to be honest.

not sure anyone cares, but here's the screen from the back.

i've test-wired the 12v display into a switching ATX power supply and it powers up into VGA mode, which is great!

going with a Gigabyte GA-H61N-USB3 mobo, some GeForce 210 passive (no fan) card, a celeron 530 core processor (not fast, but not slow), and probably 4 gigs ram. it wont need more. unsure if i'll just set it and forget it at 10.6.8 or try something newer.
