MacBook Pro 13 inch (Mid 2012) Memory Upgrade to 16GB?

I just ordered MBP 13 inch Mid 2012 entry model from Amazon since my current MBP is barely surviving.

My current MBP is Mid 2009 13 inch with 8GB upgrade, 120GB SSD has cracked hinge because I dropped it (forgot to zip up after putting it in the backpack). I also spilled water due to which the trackpad stopped recognizing hard clicks. It recognizes soft taps and other gestures.

Question - Can MBP 13 inch Mid 2012 be upgraded to 16GB?

Yes, it can, and once 16 GB 204-pin DDR3 SO-DIMM RAM modules arrive, maybe even to 32 GB.

I see macsales, crucial and other vendors have 204-pin DDR3 SO-DIMM upgrade modules available. But Apple Support site http://support.apple.com/kb/SP649 says memory is "Configurable to 8GB."

And Apple is known to state "false" maximum RAM amounts on their Macs for some time.
They say, the maximum is 4 GB, then the maximum is 6 GB or sometimes even 8 GB.
Since the 2011 and 2012 Macs use a chipset (Sandy Bridge and Ivy Bridge) that supports 16/32 GB on their motherboards, it is safe to buy 16 GB RAM, as many have done that since early 2011, when OWC released the first 8 GB 204-pin modules for 1,600 USD or so for two of them.

Yes. And you can mix sizes, but I have heard their is a slight performance penalty for mismatched sizes.
